Windows Spotlight Not Working in Windows 10 [FIXED]

Windows Spotlight not working on Windows 10? On this post, I will show you several ways to fix it using three methods.

Among the multiple customization options offered by Windows 10, one of the most used and dynamic is Spotlight, which is responsible for displaying the beautiful images that you see every day on the lock screen.

These images are synced with the Bing search engine, and thanks to this, you have modern and updated pictures.

Although it is a modern environment, Spotlight has errors such as always displaying the same image or merely presenting a dark background when not updating the image.

Windows 10 doesn’t allow us to reset the Spotlight settings to correct these errors, and that is why, on this post, I will show you how to fix it.

Method #1: Reset Windows Spotlight

The first thing that you can try is to remove all the Windows Spotlight data to reset all their settings.

  1. Open the Windows Settings using the keyboard shortcut: Win + I
  2. Now, click on the menu Personalization
  3. On the left side menu, click on Lock screen
  4. There, on the right side, you need to change Windows spotlight temporarily for another option like Picture or Slideshow
    picture lock screen
  5. Then open the Run window using the following keyboard shortcut: Win + R
  6. In the box, copy the following code and press Enter:

  7. The Assets folder will open, there delete all the files. You can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + A to select all the files
    delete assets folder
  8. Now open the Run window again using Win + R and there run the following code:
  9. There rename the two files adding .bak at the end
    rename windows spotlight data
  10. And that’s all you need to do, now restart your computer
  11. Go back to the Personalization settings and Lock screen section and choose Windows Spotlight
  12. Windows 10 will update all the data and download new background for your lock screen fixing the error.

Method #2: Fix Windows Spotlight Not Working using PowerShell

On this method, you can use the Windows PowerShell to fix any problem with Windows Spotlight. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Start Menu and enter the following word: PowerShell

  3. Once in the PowerShell copy and run the following command:
    Get-AppxPackage -allusers *ContentDeliveryManager* | foreach {Add-AppxPackage "$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode -register }
  4. Then restart the computer to apply the changes.
  5. From now on, when Windows locks, you can see new Bing images in the background.

Method #3: Re-Register Windows Spotlight

Re-registering the Windows Spotlight app can help you solve any errors or failures that happen. For this, you will have to follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Start Menu and enter the word: cmd
  2. Right-click on the first results and select Run as Administrator
    command prompt administrator
  3. Once in the Command Prompt, first run the DISM command to fix any problem in your system: dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
