Method #1: Reset Windows Sockets
The first you can use is the Command Prompt and reset the Windows Sockets to fix the error: One or more network protocols are missing on this computer.
In this case, the first thing that you open the Command Prompt as Administrator, which you can do by searching the word CMD on Windows Search and right click on it and select Run as Administrator.
Once inside you must copy and paste the following command and press Enter to run it:
netsh winsock reset
After you run the command, you will be requested to restart your computer to restore the corresponding entries in the Windows registry.
Once Windows 10 has already been restarted, you only have to check the status of the Internet connection again. To do this, click with the right mouse button on the internet connection icon and from the two options on the menu, select the one that says Troubleshoot problems.
If everything is correct, this tool will not report any failure, and therefore, everything will be ready to carry out your Internet connection.
However, even with the previously used method, you may still not have an Internet connection, and also in the troubleshooter, continue to report the same problem described above. So you may need to continue to method number two.
Method #2: Remove Winsock and Reinstall TCP/IP
In this method basically what you will do is reset the Windows Sockets manually in the Registry Editor. In this way, you will solve problems related to the TCP/IP configuration.
However, keep in mind that this method involves the manipulation and modification of the registry, which means that this could be a severe problem if the changes aren’t carried out correctly.
To avoid this possible problem, I recommend that before continuing with the tutorial, you create a restore point.
Once everything is ready, the first thing you will have to do is access the Windows Registry Editor. To do that, press the key combination Winkey + R and type the command:
regedit. Finally, press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
This will open the Registry Editor of your operating system. Once here, you must navigate to the following path through the folders:
Once you have located the folder or directory WinSock, in the tree on the left side of the window of the registry editor, you must right click with the mouse on that folder to select the Export option in the drop-down menu.
This will allow you to create a kind of backup of this registry entry, thus selecting a safe place to store it. Once saved, through the same process, proceeds to the removing of the said registry by right-clicking on it and select Delete.
Then you must perform the same operation, but with the WinSock2 registry folder, for this, you will have to go to the following directory:
Once the entries in the Winsock and Winsock2 registry have been removed, you must go to the Windows 10 Control Panel.
Once inside the Control Panel, you must navigate to Networks and Internet and then click on the Network and Sharing Center option. In this window, you must click on the option on the left: Change adapter settings.
Once the new Network Connections window is open, you should go to the network adapter that you are going to use. If you are going to connect to the Internet by cable, you should right click on the Ethernet adapter, and if you do it with Wi-Fi, you must click with the right mouse button on the Wireless adapter.
In both cases, you must select the Properties option from the drop-down menu. Once the small window is already open, you must click on the Install button, which will open a small window in which you will have to select Protocol for row followed by clicking on the Add button. This will take you to a new window with the name: Select the network protocol
However, in your case, what you will do is click on the Have Disk button.
This, in turn, will open the Install from Disk window in which we will have to enter:
C:\Windows\inf in the section Copy manufacturer’s files from. To do this, you can also use the Browse button. Finally, click on OK.
To finish, in the new window, you must select the protocol: Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) – Tunnels and finally you will only have to click on the OK button. Now you have to close the Network and Sharing Center and restart the PC to fix the error: One or more network protocols are missing on this computer.
Method #3: Update Network Adapter Drivers
The two methods above should fix the problems of your Internet connection whether Wi-Fi or Ethernet on your Windows 10 computer.
However, if you have not succeeded, I recommend that you upgrade your network adapters, but in this case not from the Device Manager, but I recommend that you visit the manufacturer’s website of your network adapter and find out if they have the latest version compatible with the Windows 10 operating system.
To know the manufacturer of your network adapter, you have to go to the Device Manager. You can do that by searching “device manager” on Windows Search.
Then click on the Network Adapters section and within these, you will find the list of network adapters installed on your computer with the name of the manufacturer.
Now you have to visit the official website and download the latest drivers and install them. This should fix all your Internet connection problems in Windows 10.
