How To Fix Windows Spotlight Not Working in Windows 10

Windows 10 has an integrated feature of Windows Spotlight. This function offers us an ideal option to modify the lock screen which displays different background images.

Occasionally it offers suggestions directly from Bing, which is the default search engine of Windows 10.

This Windows Spotlight feature is available in all Windows 10 Editions.

Method #1 Register Windows Spotlight Again

The first option to use is to register the feature again for all associated services to work as expected.

  1. First of all, open the Command Prompt as Administrator and run the following command:
    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  2. There wait for the tool to finish its analyze.
  3. Now, let’s execute the following command: sfc /scannow

    This SFC command (System File Checker) is responsible for analyzing file systems to repair internal damages.
  4. Now open the PowerShell as Administrator and run the following command:
    Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like “*SystemApps*”} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

Once the action is complete, lock your session to verify that the Windows Spotlight feature work as expected.

Method #2: Fix Windows Spotlight using File Explorer

  1. Go to the Start Menu and click on Settings or just press Winkey + I
  2. Click on the Personalization category and in the new window go to the Lock Screen section. There, in the Background field, we select the option Image or Presentation:

  3. Now, open the File Explorer and go to the View menu and enable the Hidden items option located in the Show/Hide section:

  4. Go to:
    C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager\LocalState\Assets
  5. There, select all the files Ctrl + A and delete them:
    delete all files assets
  6. Now go back to your Lockscreen options and select Windows Spotlight in Background.

As easy as that, you can fix the Windows Spotlight feature.
