Do you have the error Failure Configuring Windows Updates Reverting Changes? Learn on this post how to fix it with some easy methods.
Microsoft has been designed to set the whole process of system updates automatically and in the background without affecting the work we as users have.
Sometimes Windows Update does not work in an ideal way because you have seen how it is blocked when trying to install a particular update leaving you some of these messages:
Failure Configuring Windows Updates Reverting Changes Do not turn off your computer
This error usually occurs in Windows 7, but you can also see it in Windows 8 and Windows 10, which can affect your work when you are forced to restart the computer.
On today’s post, I will leave you some methods that you can try to fix this Failure Configuring Windows Updates error.
Method #1: Troubleshooter to Fix Failure Configuring Windows Updates
This Windows Update troubleshooter is included from Windows 7 and gives you the possibility to use this utility to correct various problems that may be present in the system.
To access it go to the Control Panel, in my case I using Windows 10, and there select the option Troubleshooting.
Click Next to start the analysis process in search of Windows Update problems. If you click on the Advanced options line, you can activate the default checkbox, Apply repairs automatically so that the utility, in case of finding errors, corrects them automatically without your intervention. This utility is valuable as the first option in search of errors.
Method #2: Clear Windows Update Cache Manually
This is a valid option when the troubleshooter has not been able to correct the Failure Configuring Windows Updates error.
For this, you have to start Windows 10 in safe mode, and one of the ways you can do it is the following:
When the system is started, keep the F8 key pressed to start in safe mode.
Another available option is to open the Settings using the key combination Winkey + I and navigate to Update & Security > Recovery
There click on the option Restart now, once the system restart navigates to Advanced Options > Startup Settings to select the boot option in safe mode. Enter the number 4, and the system will start in safe mode.
When accessing Windows in safe mode, open a Command Prompt as administrator and run the following command:
net stop wuauserv
Once you run the command the Windows Update service will stop, now go to the next route. There you must delete all the hosted files: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
Now you can start the Windows Update service by entering the following command at the command prompt:
net start wuauserv
This way we have removed the Windows Update cache, and it can be a solution to the update problem.
Method #3: Upgrade Windows Update
This option applies to Windows 7 users independent of the system architecture, 32 or 64 bits. We know that during the installation of Windows 7, Service Pack 1 or SP1 of Windows 7 is automatically installed, which makes the process slower than usual and due to this update, the Failure Configuring Windows Updates error with Windows Update sometimes arises. Microsoft has provided a solution to correct this problem and consists of the following process:
You must go to the Control panel > System and Security > Change Settings and there choose the option Never check for updates (not recommended)
Now restart the computer so that the changes take effect. Once you start Windows 7 again, you will need to install two updates provided by Microsoft manually, and you must keep in mind the architecture of the system (32 or 64 bits).
- Download KB3020369 for 32-bit
- Download KB3172605 for 32-bit
- Download KB3020369 for 64-bit
- Download KB3172605 for 64-bit
The first update that will be required to install is KB3020369, and for this, click on it twice and follow the steps of the wizard.
Once the updates have been installed, you can reboot the system and again set the automatic updates to their original state.
Method #4: Install Updates Manually using WSUS Offline
If without any of the methods mentioned above, you can solve the Failure Configuring Windows Updates error on your PC, you can try to install the updates manually using WSUS Offline. This tool, although not Microsoft’s own, offers you the possibility of manually downloading the available updates for Windows 7, 8 and 10. You can download it from the following link: WSUS OFFLINE
Proceed to extract the compressed file and run the file called UpdateGenerator.exe, and you will see the following environment.
There select the respective downloads to install them later and in this way allow Windows Update to work correctly.
